Ultimo Creative Precinct
We can define a city by separating it into emergent networks: as dense collections of buildings linked by a network of space; it can also be a functional network which grows from the movement of people, goods and communications; and it can also be seen as a social network of interactions between individuals, groups, and institutions. To try and understand sydney as a city, we have to look at its interactions, in this case its relationships and interactions in the UCEP. Through the use of video, photos and research, it is clear that the UCEP is a confused part of the city.
The southern part of the UCEP is where we find the education precinct and this also acts as a gateway into the cbd. The university is spread throughout Ultimo like office buildings, a miniature city of its own, yet it lacks the interaction and connection of a network. One of the challenges of the site is to create an environment that is suitable for its use. This is where issues such as the following play a major role:
-Site use
-Traffic flow
-Pedestrian access
-Public space
-Public interaction
