Barangaroo

Barangaroo as a site has played a significant role in the design process. Sydney’s ever increasing population is turning it into a skyline of apartment buildings and offices so when tackling this site, it was important to create a space, an environment which complimented the waste management plant. Having a university campus on the site allows for a close relationship in terms of research and furthering the publics education on waste and the possible processes and solutions of certain problems that arise from irresponsible waste management.
These 2 uses of the site create a private environment that is not easily accessible for the public. To have such a large public open space is a very dangerous situation in sydney, we only have to look at the unsuccessful use of hyde park, during the day, it is seen as a large obstacle and during
The evening, it becomes a dangerous area which people get turned off from. The site now has been separated into 3 different uses, on the southern end of the site, the university campus is located. This allows for easy access for users coming from the city on public transport and continues the buildings along the harbour foreshore to allow barangaroo to connect to the rest of darling harbour.

The waste management plant is located in the middle of the site where it becomes accessible from the south, north and the east from hickson rd. The footpaths around the site allow the user to travel around the site in the shortest distance possible. The site is relatively open to allow the users to manipulate the space as they need to. On the northern end of the site, there is a open stage which can be used by both the university and its students and the employees of the waste management plant. It takes advantage of the view of the site and again creates space and allows for it to be manipulated for its required use.
